Adventures of DNA: Oxidative Damage

Abstract:

DNA damage is a change in DNA structure caused by external or internal factors, including DNA alkylation, oxidation, mismatch, breakage. Although the DNA damage repair mechanism can repair damaged DNA to a certain extent, accumulated damage that is not repaired can seriously threaten genome stability and human life. Oxidative DNA damage is one of the most common types of damage, with 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine as its biomarker. The quantitative detection of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine can reflect the degree of oxidative DNA damage, which is very important for the early diagnosis and treatment of diseases. In this paper, we introduce the production process, repair mechanism, and detection methods for 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine.
