This paper elaborates the innovation and entrepreneurship education mode of undergraduates at the College of Chemistry of Sichuan University, from the aspects of idea cultivation, supporting condition construction, and institutional guarantee. By analyzing the achievements and deficiencies of innovation and entrepreneurship training programs (2015–2019) of College of Chemistry based on the results of an online survey, suggestions on how to make improvements are provided.
Inorganic pigments are widely used as colorants of commodities. On the basis of literature research, the social practice group consisting of undergraduates from Xiamen University synthesized several inorganic pigments in small scale in the laboratory and summarized synthesis methods, conducted a questionnaire survey and learnt by visiting a company.
From July 20th 2019 to July 28th 2019, "Chemistry in Ningxia province" summer social practice of Xiamen University carried out the practice in Longde County, Ningxia province. The practical activities have the following major education purposes: science popularization of chemical knowledge, helping students to study, and increasing patriotism.
Considering the policy background of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration, Xiong'an New Area construction and scientific outlook on development, teachers and students majoring in chemical education from Capital Normal University conducted a summer social practice activity in Xiong'an New Area in 2019. Focusing on environment protection, the activity was designed with elements from both chemistry discipline and teacher education.
In the practice of joint operation, through project driving, interest guidance, literature review, market research, experimental research and development and other practical training, students' innovation and entrepreneurship awareness can be stimulated, and the interaction between inside and outside classes will be strengthened. The measures are designed to cultivate students' independent learning ability, team cooperation ability and innovation ability. It is also an effective way to reform the practice teaching mode and method, to build a platform for innovation of production and study, to explore the effective way for cultivating the compound and innovative talent outside the class, meeting the needs of social transformation.
A teaching team aiming at improving the students' comprehensive learning ability was constructed with the undergraduates majoring in biological pharmacy and food. The team building based on class teaching, on-campus practice, off-campus practice and network media has been carried out to guide team members to consolidate their professional foundation, expand their academic vision, and improve their learning and practical ability in an all-round way. Initial results have been achieved in improving students' learning enthusiasm, academic performance, participation and success rate in academic activities.
During the short term of 2018 and 2019, Xiamen University undergraduates' social practice team called "Trace of the Green Line" went to Chongqing, Shanghai and other major cities along Yangtze River to do some social practice activities. We collected the local water samples and determined the content of phosphate and permanganate index in water samples. At the same time, we had the promotion and the network questionnaire survey to promote the consciousness of protecting water resources.
Higher education should adapt to the trend of the world and the changes of the times. Undergraduate education needs to further improve the proportion of practical teaching, strengthen the combination of theoretical teaching and practical teaching, and improve the mechanism of collaborative education. According to the needs of subject development and enterprise development, the school of chemistry of Sun Yat-Sen University and Kingfa Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as Kingfa Technology) jointly build the practical teaching base for college students. Taking this base as an example, this paper discusses the problems encountered in the construction process and the construction contents, as well as the achievements of practical teaching base.
The practical course of campus environmental quality monitoring is a comprehensive practical course with strong practicality. The course objectives have not only the knowledge and the skill goal, but also have the process and the method goal, and also have emotional, attitudinal, and value goals. In order to better achieve the course goals, not only a reasonable implementation plan is formulated, but also a strict implementation process is performed. The instructors are responsible for collective lesson preparation, pre-class mobilization, group guidance, performance assessment and after-class summary.
Project-based practical teaching is a new type of tentative daily teaching method for undergraduates at South-Central University for Nationalities. This paper introduced the Yanan summer social practice special event "Following the Red Footprint, Caring for the Development of the Sacred Land" for undergraduate students in 2019, and analyzed its significance in chemistry teaching. This practice is an exploration and implementation of integrated project-based practical teaching, to further promote the "theory, thinking, hands-on" integrated project-based practical teaching training mode, to deeply integrate practical teaching and classroom teaching. As the consequence, Engineering students with "rational thinking" could better mobilize their enthusiasm of learning, diverge their thinking, and examine problems from different perspectives.
The "Drops" practice team from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Xiamen University carried out a practical investigation on the phenomenon of pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables with the combination of professional knowledge. Through the investigation and interview of citizens from different backgrounds, it is found that there are some doubts about their understanding of pesticide residues and the removal methods used daily. On the basis of a large number of literature research, the current detection methods of pesticide residues were summarized, and the methods suitable for this practice were selected and optimized. The method of partial removal of agricultural residues was tested experimentally and some suggestions were given according to the results. This practice will apply professional knowledge to the practice, training and improving the students' practical ability and comprehensive quality.
In order to promote students' ability to combine learning and thinking, unity of knowledge and action, and to cultivate qualified talents, the College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences in Wuhan University has made exploration to coordinate practical training and practical activities of undergraduates in recent years. Several categories have been formed, such as practical training and practice in scientific research institutes, practical training in enterprises, practice of voluntary service, practice of national conditions investigation and practical training of overseas innovation. In the exploration, we always adhere to the two concepts of collaboration and innovation. By integrating various resources and constructing the curriculum system, we promote the practical training and practice of college students in a coordinated way, so as to meet the individual development needs of students and help them become talents.
Scientific research training is an essential part of undergraduate learning, which plays an important role in improving students' knowledge utilization and scientific literacy. Taking the participation process of "Energy conservation and emission reduction competition" as an example, this paper briefly introduces the undergraduate scientific research training of students majoring in polymer materials and engineering from their own perspective, and the way to combine the discipline and school characteristics to reflect the thinking of engineering students in scientific research and practical application.
The chemical reaction rate is the basic concept of reaction kinetics, and chemical kinetic experiments to determine rate laws are common in college chemistry laboratory courses. However, there are many shortcomings in this experiment, with the large consumption of reagents as one of them. Starting from the concept of green chemistry, we propose to combine the color theory with chemical knowledge, so as to save the reagents used in the experiment and improve the students' interest in the experiment. In this paper, we first conducted a survey to investigate the subjective evaluation on classical kinetics experiments and the willingness to do virtual chemical experiments with smart phones. After analyzing the feasibility of the method in theory, we shot a short video of the reaction of methyl violet with sodium hydroxide, and determination of the kinetic constant using colorimetric analysis. The method combines the complementary color theory and Lamber-Beer law, and a dynamic experiment can be carried out by using smart phone and commonly used software only.
In this program, a copper metal-organic framework material with fluorescence performance was synthesized and used to construct a multicolor fluorescent assay for alkaline phosphatase activity based on a smartphone. This assay was applied to the visual detection of alkaline phosphatase content in serum. Undergraduates have achieved the fullest training and knowledge during this program. This paper introduces in detail the topic selection, experimental scheme design, experimental process, achievements and experience gained by students in this project.
College of Chemistry at Beijing Normal University cultivates pedagogical students in chemistry. According to the college's objective, pedagogical students are supposed to serve all ranges of primary and secondary schools in national wide and excel in profession. Summer supporting education is a common option for students to complete the course of social practice and voluntary service. In this paper, with the "HuaYuYingCai" summer supporting education team in Beijing Normal University as an example, many positive effects of summer supporting education were identified. By valuing instructors' guidance, ensuring the practicing time, combining students' self-development with community service, complementing practice with other courses, and integrating knowledge application and learning in practice, summer supporting education could not only serve as a golden experience for chemical pedagogical students, but also lay a certain foundation for their future professional development.
We analyzed and extracted the actual archaeological problems, and refined a chemical integrated practical activity around the theme of "analysis and detection of lipid residues absorbed in in archeological sherds". In this chemical practical activity, students are introduced to the interdisciplinary field of archaeological chemistry. Students crush and extract the lipid residues absorbed in archaeological sherds, transfer the recovered lipids to fatty acid methyl esters, analyze the product by GC, and analyze the usage of pottery based on the archeological background. The laboratory will be used for the students majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, and anthropology, and archaeology. Pedagogically, the techniques currently used in the field of archaeological chemistry are introduced, and the fundamental concepts in sample isolation and preparation, derivatization, gas chromatography, and multicomponent sample analysis are reinforced in this experiment.
