Abstract: Conventional Wittig reactions necessitate stoichiometric phosphine reagents and inevitably generate equimolar phosphine oxide byproducts, thereby conflicting with green chemistry principles. Recent research has focused on developing P(III)/P(V) redox catalytic strategies that achieve efficient transformations using only catalytic quantities of phosphine reagents, substantially enhancing atom economy. This review systematically examines catalytic Wittig reactions and their underlying mechanisms, with dual objectives of deepening students’ comprehension of green chemistry principles and reaction mechanisms, while facilitating the integration of scientific research findings with pedagogical practices.
