Abstract: Maker education cultivates students' innovative and practical abilities through a “learning-by-making” approach, which aligns with the pedagogical objectives of higher education in chemistry and chemical engineering. This paper proposes incorporating open-source microcontroller hardware and related software into the third-year undergraduate Chemical Reaction Engineering curriculum. The integration aims to bridge theoretical knowledge with experimental practice, providing students with comprehensive training spanning experimental design to hands-on implementation. Four teaching practice cases are presented, demonstrating applications in apparatus development, instructional experiments, and laboratory automation. The implementation of maker education principles has markedly improved students' interdisciplinary competencies, collaborative skills, and innovative capacities. These case studies may provide a replicable, cost-effective innovative framework for teaching advanced chemistry and chemical engineering courses at the undergraduate level.
