Abstract: Physical chemistry serves as a cornerstone course for chemistry majors, playing a vital role in the construction of disciplinary knowledge and the cultivation of scientific thinking. Nevertheless, in current teaching practice—particularly in the area of chemical kinetics—the original contributions of Chinese scientists remain underrepresented. This paper examines Renyuan Qian’s pioneering work in the 1940s on the kinetics of irreversible consecutive reactions and the probabilistic formulation of reaction kinetics, along with his subsequent reflections on the steady-state approximation. The pedagogical value and methodological implications of these studies for teaching chemical kinetics are analyzed. Building on this foundation, a teaching extension framework that integrates knowledge supplementation, mechanistic analysis, and case-based instruction is proposed, accompanied by the incorporation of the spirit of scientific inquiry. This approach aims to achieve a seamless integration of knowledge instruction and curriculumbased ideological and political education. The proposed teaching strategy is expected to deepen students’ understanding of kinetic mechanisms and strengthen their appreciation of the original scientific contributions made by Chinese researchers.
