Super-resolution microscopy is probably one of the fastest developed and most eye-catching new optical imaging techniques during the past few years. These group of techniques break the optical diffraction limits and increase the spatial resolution from several hundred nanometers to tens of nanometers, providing a powerful tool for life sciences. The mainstream super-resolution techniques are based either on point spread function engineering or single molecule localization. The major contributors were awarded by the 2014 Nobel Chemistry prize. This review provides a brief history of the development of super-resolution techniques and their working mechanisms. An out-look is also proposed for the future of super-resolution imaging.
In this paper, the significance and complexity of teaching research are addressed. The progressiveness, innovativeness, experimentation, demonstration, and expansibility, which are the five basic characteristics of teaching research, are suggested to be followed in writing a research paper on teaching and learning. This paper also introduces the most concerned areas of current teaching research as well as the major subjects and methods, and important research papers are referenced to provide examples. The authors hope that this paper is helpful for college chemistry teachers and researchers to conduct teaching research and compose high-quality teaching research papers for University Chemistry.
The nanotechnology industry has been developing fastly for the last few decades in China. Due to their importance in occupational exposure and public health, the educational contents of nanomaterial safety are suggested to be integrated into chemical courses. The teaching methods for lectures and experimental courses of nanomaterial safety dealing with the protective philosophy and technologies are discussed.
The emergence of massive open online courses(MOOC) provides a new idea for the chemical analysis teaching reform, but the practice of MOOC also shows some problems to be solved. To improve the teaching of chemical analysis, a combined teaching model using both online and offline was proposed according to the present teaching situation, and specific scheme was discussed. This program is expected to improve the quality of classroom teaching, the information literacy of teachers and students in the network era, and the talent training mode.
This paper demonstrated the introduction of calculus into chemical thermodynamics. The mathematical characteristics of state functions of chemical thermodynamics were summarized, and some basic concepts were discussed in terms of their correlations. Finally, the applications of calculus fundamentals to chemical thermodynamics were illustrated by several practical examples.
In this paper, the implementation of research-oriented teaching for inorganic chemistry, including the instructional design, the main contents, practice and evaluation were introduced.
To improve the students' innovative consciousness and creative thinking,in our inorganic chemistry teaching, we design the innovative homework series, including literature review, knowledge expansion, innovative tracking, theory and application, summary and comparison, generalization, and discipline infiltration.
The mixed systems of a cationic and an anionic surfactant have been suggested to be avoided since they were prone to forming precipitates. However, increasing the head group size of the surfactants, the mixed systems would not form precipitates in a large mixing ratio, and strong synergetic effect can be produced. The surfactant with large head group may even be able to increase the water solubility of an oppositely charged surfactant.
This paper reports an improved formaldehyde method for determining nitrogen content in the ammonium salt. The improved procedure is environmentally benign and easy to operate, and has been used in the basic analytical chemistry laboratory course.
A facile hydrothermal method using simple complex as the precursor has been used for the controllable synthesis of Cu2O microcrystals in the comprehensive chemistry experiment. In this experimental class, reaction conditions are altered to prepare Cu2O microcrystals with various morphologies. The structure, morphology and optical properties of Cu2O microcrystals are characterized, and the photocatalytic properties are compared.
The preparation of urea peroxide from urea and hydrogen peroxide and the determination of peroxide content are introduced in this paper. The results show that this experimental design is rational and can be used as a basic experiment in the comprehensive experimental course.
A chemical engineering experiment integrating separation and reaction was introduced, including the integrated operation of fermentation and bipolar membrane electrodialysis. This experiment can help the students to learn the basic theory of separation and reaction integration, re-understand the traditional chemical engineering reaction concept, and stimulate their interest in learning new chemical engineering knowledge.
Based on the view that macro elementary reaction is the transition from micro chemical reaction to macro chemical reaction, the transition state theory was interpreted by combining the features of activated complex and micro chemical reaction model, and a practical deduction was obtained.
By comparing bond energies of C—O single bond and C=O double bond, it can be predicted that the conjugate bases of alcohols are able to form C=O double bond via no-bond resonance. Since the bond energy of C—C single bond is much lower than that of the C—H single bond, methyl group is easier to stabilize alkoxide ions via no-bond resonance compared with H atom, the acidity sequence of alcohols in vapor phase is: (CH3)3COH >(CH3)2CHOH >CH3CH2OH >CH3OH. This viewpoint has been supported by the result of quantum chemistry calculation.
In this paper, an erroneous expression and the reason for the mistake for the G-ζ plot in some physical chemistry textbooks were shown.
The object of this paper is to find a possible botanical repellent. We first did the literature research and the survey to obtain the most popular plants and the price people willing to pay for the repellents. We then obtained the crude extract from the most popular plant by solvent extraction using sonification and vortex evaporation. At last, we used mouse to evaluate the repelling effect and effective time.
Starting from the saturated vapor pressure of pure liquid and the Henry constant, this article discusses the sufficient conditions of the existence of the azeotrope point in two-component liquid-vapor phase diagrams. Furthermore, the conclusion is illustrated by examples, combined with the physical meaning of these constants.
