Abstract: Chiral spiro compounds, owing to their rigid three-dimensional structures, offer unique advantages in asymmetric catalysis, especially C2-symmetric chiral spiro ligands, which have become a key area of research. However, the coexistence of central and axial chiralities within the spiro ring, combined with the presence of C2 symmetry, often causes confusion in the identification of chiral elements and the accurate assignment of absolute configuration. This paper addresses the identification of chiral eleme nts and the accurate nomenclature of absolute configuration in C2-symmetric chiral spiro compounds, providing clarification on naming rules and offering pedagogical recommendations.
