Abstract: The steady expansion of China’s international student population, coupled with a rising share of degree-seeking enrollees, has underscored the growing importance of ideological and political education in university instruction. This study takes artificial nitrogen fixation—a core topic in the Coordination Chemistry course—as a vehicle for seamlessly integrating disciplinary knowledge with ideological and political education. By systematically highlighting China’s scientific contributions and industrial applications in this area, the course embeds recent advances by Chinese researchers into the teaching of coordination chemistry. This approach enables international students to acquire professional expertise while gradually developing an informed understanding of, and appreciation for, China’s scientific and technological trajectory—guiding them through a progressive emotional and cognitive transition from “knowing China” to “befriending China,” and ultimately to “loving China”. The study presents a comprehensive framework for embedding ideological and political education into courses for international students, offering a practical reference for pedagogical reform in related disciplines.
