Abstract: The synergistic combination of photoredox catalysis and transition-metal catalysis merges the mild electron-transfer processes enabled by visible light with the bond-forming versatility of transition metals, thereby opening new avenues in organic synthesis. This review focuses on this synergistic catalytic strategy, systematically presenting its applications in the construction of carbon-carbon, carbon-nitrogen, carbon-oxygen, and carbon-sulfur bonds, as well as in multicomponent reactions, with an emphasis on the detailed mechanisms of various reactions.
