The mode of teaching inorganic chemistry was built on the present situation of inorganic chemistry classroom teaching and students′ suggestions. The process of interactive and cooperative learning, that is, discussing in groups, holding reading and reporting activities (meetings), making an attempt which is lectured by students, and carrying out an evaluation on students′ lectures will be emphasized in this paper. The teaching practice shows that the interactive and cooperative learning is the mode of teaching inorganic chemistry needed and preferred by students.
It is an important work to choose teaching contents for basic inorganic chemistry course in universities due to limited teaching hours and content complexity of the course. The authors propose four principles for the choice, namely scientificity, systematicness, importance and novelty. The teaching methodology also plays an important role for the course effect. We think that we should not only impart chemical knowledge and theories to the students to let them achieve the preliminary image of chemical world, but also guide students to understand the methodology of logical thinking, so that to enhance their ability of continuous learning. Our teaching practice activities are also briefly introduced.
Curriculum is one of the main carriers to achieve educational goals. According to the requirements of materials or chemistry majored graduates, we constructed a novel"ability framework system"using"advanced analytical chemistry"as the model. In the system, we used problem-based learning to introduce the teaching content, employed scientific inquiry and knowledge as the basis, and integrated the first class with the second class. After several years? practice, the system showed good effects and achieved perfect unification of teaching and learning, which can build solid basis for graduate students in materials chemistry major. The study is helpful to cultivate the modern graduate students into comprehensive talents who can master theory knowledge and practical ability.
Analytical chemistry has become the analytical science. Therefore, graduates for the master's degree majoring in analytical chemistry should be trained to master the skill of not only using but also designing analytical instruments. Taking the electronic technology course as an example, we designed contents and teaching methods particularly for graduates majoring in analytical chemistry. The teaching content and method are versatile, focusing on cultivating students' ability. It is proved to be effective after two year practice.
The application of multiple teaching mode in analytical chemistry has been explored, aiming at cultivating the active learning and promoting the learning ability of students. The establishment of the learning evaluation system concerning the multiple teaching mode is also discussed.
Instrumental analysis is an important curriculum for students majoring in chemistry. The design of instrumental analysis laboratory is very important. It is helpful to enhance the experimental technology of students through adapting the traditional experiment and designing progressive, parallel, multiple, or comprehensive experiments, respectively. The attention should be paid to the basic skills for chemical analysis, both qualitatively and quantitatively, the combination of fundamental and practical experiments. Attentions should also be paid to cultivating the data processing ability, analytical methodologies and scientific minds in the laboratory design.
Aiming at the difficulties in organic chemistry teaching in higher vocational colleges, this paper discusses the mixed mode teaching applied in organic chemistry by taking dicarboxylic acid teaching as an example. By using flip classroom teaching which combines online learning and classroom learning, the classroom teaching mode transforms its focus from the"teacher-centered model"into"student-centered model". Meanwhile, according to the characteristics of higher vocational students, tasks lists of problemsbased learning and group-learning model of the leader responsibility system are used. The practice proves that the teaching effect is satisfactory.
The innovative talents with the solid scientific background, profound professional skills, and broad knowledge should be cultivated in universities. We explored the basic idea of inquiry-teaching based on the current situation of chemistry courses in agricultural universities. The study provided a new model as reference for the reform and development of the basic course teaching.
This paper analyzes the function of model chemistry laboratorial center and the chemistry experiment teaching team in undergraduate education, and summarizes the problems in the process of development. At the same time, the chemical experimental teaching center of Hefei Normal University serves as an example for other schools to construct chemical experimental teaching team.
A computational chemistry experiment for the second semester junior was introduced. Two typical molecular weak interactions, i.e. hydrogen bond and halogen bond were investigated by constructing their potential energy surfaces using computational quantum mechanics method. The using of Gaussian, Gaussview and Origin software will be introduced. Students can get an intuitive understanding of the difference between these two intermolecular interactions, and the concept of potential energy surface. An in-depth understanding of structural chemistry and computational chemistry theoretical knowledge can be acquired.
The differences between the synthesis of aluminum potassium sulfate by aluminum foil dissolved in KOH and in H2SO4 were studied. Analysis of the material balance during the entire synthesis process by back titration of aluminum ion told us that the yield of aluminum potassium sulfate was very low due to Al (OH)3 precipitation produced by side reactions during the dissolution of aluminum foil in KOH. Stiring and lowering the KOH concentration could help to promote the yield with the H2SO4 method still showing a higher yield. Besides, the H2SO4 method was easier and more convenient. In summary, the H2SO4 method was recommended for students to carry out the synthesis of aluminum potassium sulfate.
Herein, we introduce an inorganic comprehensive experiment called the synthesis and characterization of the zinc coordination polymer. The undergraduate students would know the research frontier of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and improve the comprehensive scientific research and innovation ability during the processes of the synthesis of the organic linker, MOFs and corresponding structure-property relationship. The experiment is based on the inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry knowledge and experimental skills, which can be used as a comprehensive open experiment for senior students.
The characteristics of different parts of crystal structure were briefly introduced, and teaching of the lattice and structural motif was focused.
Teaching quality is the lifeline of higher education. This paper discusses several aspects of the curriculum, teaching materials, teaching methods and personal thinking.
Stereochemistry is a challenge to the teaching of college organic chemistry. In this article, the isomers classification and relevant concepts prone to confusion are interpreted through graphical illustrations. The stereoisomers classification and interrelation are clarified. The related concepts of stereochemistry are analyzed from both macroscopic and microscopic points of view. The relevance between these concepts is also discussed.
Learning the periodic table is usually the first thing for students in the study of professional English for chemistry. This paper describes a heuristic way to help students to understand, as opposed to simply memorizing elements in the periodic table. By correlating with famous scientists, special geographic names, stars in solar system and deities in mythology, the names of elements are no longer the combinations of letters, but become alive, making the learning process more enjoyable for students.
In this paper, we discuss the particle in a one-dimensional box and the particle on a ring. The influence of boundary conditions on levels and wave functions has also been analyzed for these two typical systems.
The thermodynamic equation includes basic thermodynamic equations, the thermodynamic state equations, and Gibbs-Helmholtz equations. In this paper, we derived the other thermodynamic state equations which are rarely mentioned in physical chemistry teaching materials. At the same time, we emphasized the systematic characteristics and the completeness of the thermodynamic theory. Furthermore, the application of surface chemistry was concluded from the first Gibbs-Helmholtz equations. Finally, we emphasized the relations between the characteristic variables and the reaction conditions.
The experimental test and design ideal of inorganic and analytical chemistry experiment for the 1st Fujian college chemistry experiment tournament were introduced. The evaluation rules of the contest, the problems found in the competition, and the analyses of the results were also introduced.
