Abstract: Under the overarching framework of “New Agricultural Science”, the standards for cultivating chemical engineering professionals in forestry universities have become increasingly rigorous. As a cornerstone course in the chemical engineering curriculum, chemical engineering thermodynamics currently faces challenges such as a disconnect between instructional content and forestry-specific characteristics, as well as a monotonous teaching model. This paper examines the issues prevalent in the current teaching of this course and, drawing on the distinctive educational philosophy of Southwest Forestry University, proposes reform strategies that integrate forestry-oriented case studies and artificial intelligence tools. By reconstructing course content, innovating pedagogical approaches, and overhauling assessment mechanisms, this study explores viable pathways for nurturing applied talents with expertise in forestry-related chemical engineering, with the aim of offering insights for the teaching reform of chemical engineering thermodynamics in forestry universities.
