Abstract: Hydrogen bonding plays a significant role in both chemistry and life science. Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) is a cutting-edge area in organic chemistry and material research. Engaging students in related experimental practices can enhance their innovative capabilities. In this article, a practical experiment was designed. Merging the condensation reaction and the Hinsberg reaction from basic organic chemistry course, we efficiently synthesized a sulfonamide AIE molecule 3 with hydrogen bonding from simple and inexpensive starting materials. The synthesized compound was characterized and its properties were measured.
