Abstract: Green chemistry has emerged as a pivotal focus in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical development. This paper introduces a photocatalytic benzoin oxidation experiment grounded in green chemistry principles. The experiment utilizes oxygen from the air as the oxidant, 9-mesityl-10-methylacridinium perchlorate as the photocatalyst, triethylenediamine as the base, and chloroform as the solvent, subjected to irradiation by a 456 nm LED for 2 h. By optimizing the experimental conditions, we established the optimal reaction parameters, which were subsequently implemented in undergraduate laboratory courses, thereby integrating scientific research with education.
