Abstract: Urine glucose test strips serve as a convenient tool for daily diabetes monitoring, playing a vital role in blood glucose management. This experiment elucidates the function, chemical principles, fabrication, and application of urine glucose test strips for public education. The detection mechanism involves glucose oxidase identifying glucose in urine, which subsequently generates gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide under aerobic conditions. Tetramethylbenzidine undergoes redox reactions with hydrogen peroxide, catalyzed by peroxidase under weakly acidic conditions, yielding yellow imine ions. This colorimetric change enables qualitative or semi-quantitative detection of urine glucose. By integrating chemistry with health knowledge and practical applications, this experiment enhances public understanding of chemistry’s role in medical health monitoring.
