Electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy related to electron transition energy levels has become a mainstream characterization mean of the comprehensive chiroptical spectroscopy in the study on chiral stereochemistry, because of its wider research objects and mutual complementarity with vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy involving vibrational energy levels. In this paper, three main methods of determination of absolute configuration of chiral metal complexes are summarized. ECD spectroscopic methods are described in detail, among them exciton chirality method is emphasized. Additionally, this review points out the developing trend of the comprehensive chiroptical spectroscopy in the future.
The flipped classroom-teaching mode was applied in the analytical chemistry course. Error analysis and data processing were chosen as the example to evaluate the teaching effect.
For the requirement of excellent engineers, we put forward the new multicourse integration teaching model. With this new model, students carried out their self-learning from online course of national resources sharing class of general chemistry of Tongji University and MOOC/SPOC, followed by the class discussion to further explore the relative professional scientific knowledge. The performance of this teaching model can improve students' chemical quality, broaden their field of science and technology, and train their analysis ability.
By introducing the characteristics of Mind Mapping and the associated software (XMind), the theoretical basis for applying Mind Mapping to physical chemistry is elaborated. Taking the second law of thermodynamics as an example, the effective role of Mind Mapping in constructing the knowledge system, mastering the knowledge, and training the thinking ability is illustrated.
In light of the situation in our college, this paper discusses the method for evaluating inorganic chemistry laboratory. The grading can be divided into stage performance scores, session scores, and final scores, paying more attention to the comprehensive ability evaluation in addition to basic skills.
In this paper, the authors point out the problems and deficiencies of the university curriculum assessment. Based on our teaching practice, the assessment and evaluation of university curriculum are explored and practiced, and the models for different curriculum assessment are put forward. Also the authors point out that we should make corresponding reforms and assessment measurements differing from curriculums under the background of information technology.
Following the idea of frontiers leading, internationalization, micromation and green teaching, the reform of organic chemistry laboratory bilingual course system has been focused on experimental basis, basic operations, micro synthetic, and comprehensive experiments. On the basis of the establishment of bilingual experiment preview system and the improvement of evaluation system, the students are demanded to master the experiment principle, understand the experiment objective, know the apparatus, reagents and procedures, and finish the preview report in English. This could make the students interested in organic chemistry experiments and professional English. The aim of the course is focused on the mastery and application of the basic theory and operation methods, as well as cultivating the students with international perspective, solid experimental skills and innovational consciousness.
The new media WeChat public platform is simple, convenient, accurate and sustainable, well accepted by students, and it has penetrated into every corner of university study and life, as well as directly affects the informatization construction and management of university laboratories. In order to improve the scientific management level of laboratory teaching, in this paper, the construction of basic chemistry laboratory using WeChat public management system is presented, and related application and practice are introduced. It breaks the limits of time and space in laboratory management and teaching, improves laboratory efficiency and provides higher level of service for laboratory teaching and talent cultivation.
A new research-based comprehensive experiment was introduced. Low-cost polyaniline-lignosulfonate (PAL) composite with high-adsorption performance was synthesized via a facile oxidative chemical polymerization from aniline monomers by using lignosulfonate as a dispersant. Students are required to master the experimental procedures of PAL composite synthesis, and systematically understand the methods of characterization and dye-adsorption performance measurements of PAL. Through this experiment, students can study and apply polymer chemistry, polymer physics, and functional polymer, as well as develop their comprehensive experimental abilities.
This paper summarizes the four kinds of differences appeared between the new and old IUPAC name and CCS name, and puts forward the solution.
The stereoselectivity of organic reactions and the stereoisomerism of organic compounds constitute one of the research topics with paramount importance not only in organic chemistry, but also in related disciplines such as medicinal science and life science. This article introduces the historic origins, connotations and academic usage contentions of several important descriptors for stereoselectivity and stereochemical purity:percent enantiomeric excess (%ee), percent diastereomeric excess (%de), enantiomeric ratio (er) and diastereomeric ratio (dr), and gives suggestion on introducing these terms in the teaching processes of relevant courses.
Free software, such as Scilab, LiberOffice and R, were applied to solve chemical principle exercises, and the solving procession was demonstrated in recitation class. Such attempts have trained ability of undergraduate students to solve practical problems by scientific methods, and led students to focus on the application of free software in scientific computation.
Application of cloud computing in teaching established the concept of cloud computing assisted education. The teaching mode in 21st century focuses primarily on learning, secondarily on teaching. And the way of individual learning is also transforming towards collaborative learning. Those transformations form the core concept of cloud computing assisted instruction. This paper reviews the development of computer-assisted education, and analyzes and discusses the process of building a cloud computing learning environment as well as a collaborative learning model."College Chemistry Cloud School"is also used as a case study for real world applications of the aforementioned environment and model. Its design process and implementation methodology are presented with the hope to help with cloud computing assisted education and research.
To better understand the migration and development of the Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica during the Anti-Japanese War, we present the arduous course of migration, reconstruction and scientific research. On this basis, we summarize the characteristics and academic contribution of scientific research and other relevant issues of the Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica during the wartime.
The development of nuclear power needs nuclear chemistry and radiochemistry (NRC) experts. However, the shortage of such experts is a worldwide problem in nowadays. This paper introduces the CINCH (Cooperation in Nuclear and Radiochemistry Education and Training in Europe) project which was carried out to overcome the shortage of NRC experts in Europe. The achievements of CINCH were a detail survey of NRC education in Europe, a plan to introduce the EuroMaster degree to guarantee the education quality and an interactive open database for NRC education and training (NucWik). These successful experiences are beneficial to our NRC education.
The questions in the theory test of the 30th Chinese Chemistry Olympiad (Final Test) are solved in detail. The manuscript not only provides systematic analyses for all questions, but also guides the readers through the solutions in an intuitive manner. For selected questions, rich introduction to the scientific backgrounds and bibliographical resources are also included.
