Abstract: This study addresses ecological security concerns through early warning of cyanobacterial blooms by developing an innovative 12-hour comprehensive undergraduate experiment. The curriculum integrates conjugated polymer fluorescent probes for phycocyanin detection into four modules: probe synthesis, instrumental characterization, method development, and sample analysis, incorporating multidisciplinary knowledge from organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry, and instrumental analysis. Our self-developed portable intelligent fluorescence sensing platform significantly enhances teaching efficiency and student engagement while promoting the coordinated development of experimental skills, data analysis capabilities, innovative thinking, and research competence. Characterized by low cost, operational simplicity, and high safety, this experiment effectively bridges fundamental techniques with advanced understanding of structure-property-application relationships, making it ideal for upper-level chemistry majors in “Comprehensive Chemical Experiment” courses. The probe design demonstrates universal applicability for various target analytes, and the versatile, cost-effective sensing platform shows excellent potential for widespread adoption in fluorescence-based experimental teaching.
