Abstract: Under the Dual Carbon Strategy and regional industrial transformation, the traditional applied chemistry specialty must evolve from a single-industry orientation to a comprehensive training model encompassing energy chemical engineering, industrial water treatment, and green low-carbon operations. This study presents the revised training program for applied chemistry at North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, developed through extensive campus and industry research, demand analysis, and backward design of graduation requirements. The reform transitions the specialty focus from “Power Plant Chemistry” to “Energy Chemical Engineering and Chemical Water Treatment” through five key aspects: professional repositioning, curriculum module restructuring, practice teaching chain optimization, digital-intelligent technology integration, and curriculum-based ideological and political education. The new framework establishes a talent cultivation pathway emphasizing solid foundations, focused direction, interdisciplinary integration, practical application, and value guidance. Compared with the original program, the revised version demonstrates stronger objective orientation, student-centered approach, and outcomebased education, while enhancing integration of artificial intelligence, data literacy, engineering ethics, and water conservancy characteristics. This reform better aligns with the demands of energy chemical engineering, water treatment, and environmental protection industries, providing a reference for specialty construction and transformation in applied chemistry programs at regional universities.
