Abstract: This study addresses the challenges of superficial ideological and political education, its disconnection from professional practice, and the lack of national defense characteristics in the graduate course Practice of Modern Materials Research Methods. Guided by the values embedded in the spirit of scientists and the military, a teaching integration framework characterized by “field alignment, progressive case design, and behavioral transformation” was developed. By constructing a hierarchical case database with national defense features, designing a staged practical teaching pathway, and establishing a processoriented assessment system, these dual spirits were systematically integrated into three core instructional modules: spectroscopy, microscopy, and thermal analysis. Teaching practice over four consecutive cohorts demonstrates that the course reform has significantly enhanced first-year graduate students’ research operational standardization, professional knowledge application skills, and awareness of national defense values. This work provides an operable and transferable implementation paradigm for integrating ideological and political education into practical courses within science and engineering graduate programs.
