MS-based proteomics has undergone rapid advancements in recent years. As infectious diseases cause millions of death each year, it has become increasingly important to study host-pathogen interactions on the molecular level. Recently, proteomic analyses of pathogens and their mammalian host have received widespread attentions. Here we review the major progress made in this area within the last decade.
Lab course of polymer chemistry in science faculties is not updated enough because that polymer science developed so much since last 90's. It deserves more attention to develop a polymer chemical lab course referred to more novel polymerization techniques and characterization methods. A wholly new designed course, lab of contemporary polymer chemistry, introduced in this article focuses on the training of some important but newly developed techniques and ideas in polymer science. It proves to be feasible and helpful in improving the research quality and scientific interest of students in science faculties, and builds a new way for the development of the lab course of polymer chemistry suitable for the education of creative research students.
In this article, we design and organize the introduction of structural chemistry to highlight the content and importance of the course, to motivate the students, and to show the students the way to learn as well as matters needing attention. This instructional design for the introduction of structural chemistry provides the students with a solid foundation for the subsequent teaching and learning.
For better constructing the excellent resource sharing course and improving the quality of talent training, we try to implement the blending teaching by lectures and video teaching, based on achievements of national excellent course——general chemistry provided by Harbin Institute of Technology. The achievements and problems have been discussed, and suggestions have been made to promote and implement the blended teaching for better online education of general chemistry.
This paper provides approaches for bilingual organic chemistry teaching for applied chemistry and material chemistry majored students. In this bilingual teaching practice, solutions have been provided to make English better serve the teaching purpose, especially the organic chemistry teaching.
This review introduces the latest research progress of TMHQ synthesis, including 2,3,6-trimethylphenol(TMP) redox method, TMP hydroxylation method, and isophorone method, as well as the mechanism of key steps. Development and application of new types of catalysts are the focus in this field.
Reynolds experiment is an indispensable experiment for students to study fluid theory and to distinguish the pipe flow state. LabVIEW was used in this paper to edit simulation for Reynolds experiment, which improved the experimental conditions, the experiment effect and student's computer skills. The application of the software strengthened the experimental skill training, and helped with achieving better teaching results.
The data acquisition and data processing program for BH-1S combustion heat detector is coded using VB6.0. The temperature difference-time curve is constructed with adaptive coordinates in the data collection process, to provide the suitable scale and resolution for students to carry out the experiment according to the curve. The inflection points of the temperature difference-time curve are labeled with point numbers of the data for easy the visual judgment, which helps students with identifying inflection points according to the matching level between the fitting line and the experimental data points. These improvements simplify the experimental operations and data processing, as well as increase the efficiency of experiments and the accuracy of the determination results, making the instrument full of modernization level.
The synthesis of melatonin is an exploratory experiment completed by second-year undergraduates. The synthetic approach based on the procedure provided by the patent is a short, simple, and industrially feasible process suitable for organic chemistry laboratory. The formation of the indole ring is completed based on Japp-Klingemann reaction and Fischer indole synthesis using phthalimide, 1,3-dibromo-propane, ethyl acetoacetate and 4-anisidine as the main reactants. Melatonin forms after hydrolyzation, decarboxylation and acetylation of the indole ring. The optimization of conditions is also discussed briefly.
In this work, an experiment of synthesis and adsorption property of mesoporous carbon CMK-3 is introduced to the comprehensive chemistry laboratory. The morphology and pore structure of CMK-3 were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and nitrogen adsorption-desorption analysis. The adsorption property of CMK-3 for methylene blue in aqueous solution was evaluated.
Using Fe(acac)3 (acac=acetylacetone) as the solid source, α-Fe2O3 thin film was prepared by metal organic chemistry vapour deposition (MOCVD) method with ultrasonic nebulization device. The structural, electrical and optical properties of the film were characterized.
The frequent occurring sandstorms have a great impact not only on people's daily life in the northern region, but also on the routine working of the sophisticated instruments. In this paper, a summary was provided about the operation performance of the instrument in the circumstance of the dust weather. For the atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer (ICP-AES), the entering of dusts in the interior of the instrument would cause the fault of the air compressor and the radiofrequency (RF) generator sensor, as well as the block of the pipes of the assistant gas. This paper provides solutions to these problems and suggestions are made for instrumental operation and maintenance.
We proposed different perspectives on some questions in physical chemistry textbooks, concerning about the primary process and secondary process of photochemistry, the quantum yield and reaction rate expression of primary process, and whether it is zero-order reaction.
Based on the relationship between the standard Gibbs free energy change, the standard electrode potential and the standard reaction equilibrium constant, the relationship between standard electrode potentials in different standard states has been analyzed. Accordingly, the general method to calculate the reaction equilibrium constant by designing a Galvanic battery is discussed, taking the dissociation equilibrium of water as an example.
In this paper, the absolute value of titration jump has been introduced and used to deduce the criteria for direct volumetric titration.
This paper introduces a few major methods and the associated physical models for deriving the Freundlich isotherm. Review comments are made to provide recommendation for physical chemistry teaching.
The pH calculation of amphiprotic species is a very important content in the inorganic chemistry course. In this paper, the calculation of pH and the distribution fraction as a function of pH using Matlab software are illustrated by three representative examples, NaHCO3, NH4CN, and NaH2PO4. This practice can help students further understand the fundamentals of the amphiprotic species, and enable students to understand and learn the application of Matlab software in chemistry.
There are several allotropes of carbon and their stability can be judged by energy criterion. Of the most common allotropes, graphite is the most stable under the standard condition, and its standard molar enthalpy of formation is taken as the reference value 0kJ/mol in physical chemistry. Recently, some researchers reported that diamond would be more stable than graphite at 0K. It should also be stressed that the claim that fullerene is more stable than graphite is wrong.
On Apr. 16-17, 2015, the “Seminar on Physical Chemistry Teaching” sponsored by Higher Education Press was held in Qingdao, Shandong. During this seminar, some important problems and disputes including the definitions of spontaneous change and reversible process, the relationship between reversibility and equilibrium, the relationship between spontaneity and irreversibility, entropy of surroundings and universe entropy, thermodynamic definition of surroundings, universe entropy criterion, reaction direction and reaction limit were discussed. Some deep insights of definitions and settlements of disputes were made. This paper is a summary of this seminar, which is meaningful and helpful for both the textbook authors and the teachers of physical chemistry.
