Abstract: Metallene, a novel two-dimensional metallic material composed of metal atoms, exhibits a thickness of only one or a few atomic layers. Its ultra-thin layer structure endows metallene with exceptionally high specific surface area and atomic utilization efficiency, attracting considerable attention. This paper provides a concise overview of metallene, covering its definition, classification, preparation methods, and applications in electrocatalytic water splitting and biomedical fields.
