Abstract:

"General chemistry" is a required basic course for the most majors of science and engineering. High-quality teaching materials are required for curriculum construction and talent cultivation. In recent decades, the inorganic and general chemistry teaching and research team at Tongji University has systematically constructed the teaching material of general chemistry textbooks in multiple versions, forms and dimensions, and thus reaching to a new level of General Chemistry (2nd edition). Achievements of system construction of this textbook are mainly reflected in the following aspects: 1) the knowledge structure meeting different levels is systematically constructed to meet the need of different talent-cultivation modes, and the knowledge points match the requirements of emerging engineering education are laid out; 2) a teaching material system has been established for adapting to the training goal of high-quality talents with a solid foundation and a broad vision; 3) a dynamic updating mode has been built timely. The textbook embodies the advanced nature, intersections and comprehensiveness of knowledge. Overall, General Chemistry (2nd edition) after the system construction not only conforms to the interdisciplinary characteristics, but also adapts to the requirements of the talent-training for emerging engineering education.
