Abstract: This article explores several classic oxidation reactions of alkenes that are typically not thoroughly covered in foundational organic chemistry, such as epoxidation, osmium tetroxide oxidation, potassium permanganate oxidation, and ozonolysis. These reactions are categorized into three types based on their mechanisms: epoxidation, dihydroxylation, and oxidative cleavage. Each section includes the general reaction mechanism, typical examples, and extensions. This classification aids students in understanding the similarities and differences between various oxidation reactions, while the inclusion of typical examples enhances their comprehension of the practical applications of these reactions. Additionally, each category features an extension, including Sharpless epoxidation/dihydroxylation and the latest advancements in the environmentally friendly oxidative cleavage of double bonds. Through the summary and expansion of these reactions, this article aims to help students master these key reactions while fostering their research interests and encouraging them to engage with cutting-edge scientific challenges.
