Chemical stories are introduced, involving the invention of Hantzsch esters, close relationship between Hantzsch and his outstanding student-the founder of Coordination Chemistry-Werner, and Werner's pioneering contribution to chiral stereochemistry. An up-to-date introduction is given for the spontaneous resolution of racemic nimodipine under chiral crystallization and its precise characterization. Moreover, polymorphism and polymorphic drugs have been also described.

Based on the background of high energy consumption of industrial silicon, we introduce the existing state of silicon in the biomass resource of rice husk and discuss how to extract "silicon" from rice husk in the view of energy, environment and green chemistry. Utilizing the latest scientific research achievements of rice husk silicon, we want to strengthen the popularization of science and technology and intensify the readers' awareness of energy conservation and environmental protection while understanding the principle of extracting "silicon" from rice husk. The display effect and the characteristics of the two experiments as the popular science experiment project in chemical science popularization activities were also introduced.
Based on the laboratory teaching resources in the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, East China Normal University, an open-to-public chemical science base has been constructed for the teenagers. With visual effects that embody different themes and experimental contents on hardware, this popular science base can be used for both chemistry laboratory teaching, as well as science and technology demonstration. Some special chemistry practice courses have been set up, and a series of interesting chemistry experiments and chemical inquiry projects have been designed, which facilitate chemical practice and chemical research for a variety of people in the public. Custom-designed for primary and high school students and teachers, and the students in the normal university, a "three-in-one" teaching practice mode has been established, which effectively solve the contradiction between the functions of service society and the education training objectives in the university. The construction of the popular science base of East China Normal University has made exploration and practice beneficial to stimulating teenagers' interest in science, training exploration and innovation ability in chemistry experiment, and realizing the social service function of universities.
The National Demonstration Center for Experimental Chemistry Education of Peking University has been committing to explore and practice the effective way of science popularization. Through the construction of the science popularization base, completing several science popularization projects and taking part in many times of science popularization activities, we gradually accumulated some effective work modes on how to carry out the science popularization work in universities. This paper shows the relationship between life and chemistry, discusses the construction of base and the development of product, and demonstrates the content and form of science popularization. We expect colleges, universities and research institutes could play their leading role in the work of science popularization.
This paper introduces a special boxed set containing real samples about periodic table of the elements applied to teaching and science popularization activities. This boxed set has the characteristics of portability, the learning pleasure, and diversified application scenarios. The samples in the boxed set are diversified and close to real life, and the app named "elements puzzles" extended knowledge on elements. The feedbacks of the interactive activities from about a thousand participants on science popularization indicate that participants' interests in learning can be well stimulated. This boxed set can also help general public learn knowledges on the elements and the periodic table in a happy atmosphere, and make them realize that chemical elements are close to their daily life based on science.

This showcase is a scientific platform of real chemicals to systematically demonstrate principles of color according to related chemical theories. An educational mobile application named "Elements Puzzles" has been developed by National Demonstration Center for Experimental Chemistry Education of Peking University. Based on the periodic table of the elements, the app provides a science popularization platform concerning knowledges of chemical elements and related principles with the "puzzle games" as the vehicle. This paper mainly introduces the design concept, product features and application scenarios of this chemical educational app.
A science popularization product of chemistry experiment, which is about the preparation of hand cream, was designed and developed. By demonstrating the making process of the hand cream, the public was exposed to emulsification and related chemical knowledge. Through simplifying the formulation, optimizing the operation, beautifying appliances and enhancing the interaction, the operability and ornamental value of the experiment were enhanced. Meanwhile, the video and handouts were provided that had detailed instructions on experimental process and chemical principles to the public. The product was close to life, safe, beautiful, portable and appropriate for all ages.
Inspired by beading in daily life, a series of C84 isomers molecular models belonging to different groups were obtained. These models can be used as visual aids to help students understand the relevant knowledge of abstract molecular point groups, and also can be used to introduce symmetry-related knowledge to the public.
In this paper, a simple version of UV-Vis spectrometer was constructed to illustrate structure of the spectrometer and the function of the equipment components. Modern UV-Vis spectrometer tends to be present as "black box" that the inner construct is not visible, however, the open UV-Vis spectrometer can solve this problem. Interesting interactive experiments were conducted with this equipment. The inner connections between color, pigment density and optical spectrum were clearly illustrated by measuring colored drinks using the UV-Vis spectrometer. Furthermore, knowledge of chemistry and instrument was well introduced to people of different ages.
