The construction of first-class major is the foundation for constructing the first-class undergraduate education and world-leading university. This paper clarifies the construction standard and key points of first-class major on the analysis of the Information Tables for application of the first-class major. Some suggestions for the future construction of firs-class major are provided. It is of certain guiding significance to the construction of the first-class major in the future.
The chemistry major at Xiamen University has accumulated rich experience and strong teaching and research strength during more than 90 years of development. This paper reports the main measures and effects of the comprehensive reform of the major from the aspects of personnel training mode, curriculum system, practice teaching platform, teacher team construction and quality assurance system, and presents the roadmap for the future construction and reform of the chemistry major.

As the basis of undergraduate education, major construction is a systematic project, involving teachers, students, and the condition and support of teaching. The level and quality of major construction directly affect the quality of talent training. To cultivate excellent professionals and promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, this paper analyzed the current status of major construction and pointed out the bottleneck of the major development by taking chemistry major of Hunan University as an example. According to the central task of "talent training" and the shortcomings of major status, we put forward reform measures from the aspects of "software and hardware" of major construction. This paper may provide some clues and references for constructing first-class chemistry or other majors.
In the long-term teaching practice, the major of chemistry at Northwest University has formed a distinctive feature in the specialty construction, by scientifically and rationally setting the specialty orientation and personnel training objectives based on the following measures: continuous improving the teaching quality with the construction of teachers as the starting point; polishing the background color of professional education based on the teaching material construction; focusing on improving students' academic quality using curriculum construction as the guide; establishing long-term mechanism of talent training with first-class teaching management as the guarantee. After years of exploration and practice, the chemistry discipline of Fuzhou University has exhibited distinctive characteristics during the construction of first-class major. This article introduces the chemistry major of Fuzhou University with Prof. Dr. Lu Jiaxi's "C3H3" as the educational guiding ideology, based on morality and cultivation of people, maintaining integrity and innovation, and through the reform of the curriculum system, talent training mode and practical teaching system, the spirit of Jiaxi is run through the whole process of talent training. The above measures have achieved certain results.
After more than 30 years of development and construction, the applied chemistry specialty at Jinan University has formed the professional characteristics and advantages of "international orientation especially towards Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan". This paper herein introduced the opportunities and challenges of constructing the first-class applied chemistry specialty under the background of "double first-class construction", as well as the corresponding reform aimed to the central task of "talent training", pointed out the problems in the construction, and provided suggestions for the construction of first-class applied chemistry specialty.
It is an inevitable trend of university education in the new era to revitalize undergraduate education, improve the ability of cultivating talents, establish first-class undergraduate major and build first-class undergraduate education. Taking the chemistry (normal) major of Southwest University as an example, the ideas, measures and results of the formulation of training program, the construction of basic teaching organizations, the reform of teaching content and methods, the construction of teaching practices were introduced. In addition, measures and ideas, implementation plan and construction effect are proposed.
In the new era of China's higher education development, the major construction of local normal universities is facing the great opportunity for development driven by the "double ten thousand plan". Taking chemistry major of Anqing Normal University as an example, through more than 40 years' running, the connotation construction of chemistry major such as professional orientation, teaching staff, teaching resources, teaching reform, practical teaching and quality control has made remarkable achievements. As a national first-class applied chemistry major construction university, how to deeply pay attention to the initial intention of undergraduate major construction, combine the characteristics of professional development and regional advantages, and do a good job of national first-class major construction has become the main task in the following three years of construction. Although some experience in the construction of the first-class undergraduate construction of applied chemistry has been accumulated, some unavoidable problems need to be solved. Relying on the first-class discipline of chemistry and chemical engineering characteristic in our university, applied chemistry major has established a three-level theory course teaching system including basic courses, core courses and professional module direction courses, guided by the concepts of solidifying basic knowledge, interdiscipline, modularization. Furthermore, four levels of practical teaching system including basic, comprehensive, professional and innovative research laboratories, and training model including outstanding ability, sub-direction, sino-US cooperative education were applied in student cultivation. Academic tutors undertake the task of student training in actual work, promoting the development of innovative research laboratory and subject competitions. A "3-4-3-1" training model has been set up for cultivating innovative and practical applied chemistry professionals integrating science and engineering.
The College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences in Wuhan University considers first-class undergraduate education as the basic task of the "Double First-Class" construction. By placing the development of students in the focus, it explores multi-level teaching of professional core courses and classified training of teaching students according to their aptitude. This reform has strengthened students' confidence in learning, improved their interest in learning and achievements, promoted the cultivation of top talents, optimized the allocation of teachers, and further improved the quality of education and teaching.
Based on the background of "emerging engineering education" construction, some methods were employed for the analytical chemistry course in Harbin Institute of technology, including updating the teaching content according to the characteristics of each major, combining with the latest scientific research progress in order to open the channel between classroom teaching and scientific research results, improving teaching skills, enriching practical teaching resources, opening the surface and interface material analytical chemistry laboratory, and stimulating learning interests by discipline competition and innovation and entrepreneurship projects as carriers. These methods can further improve teaching quality and broaden students' international vision, and comprehensively improve students' innovative spirit and ability.
Based on the concept for the construction of first-class curriculum and under the guidance of "the integration of the first level disciplines", in this study, with organic chemistry learning as an example, how to strengthen the cooperation between the courses of the secondary disciplines and the teaching based on the problem-based learning (PBL) mode was discussed.
The methods for teaching the physical chemistry course have been improved, considering cultivating the technology talents for local application-oriented university. We focused on the effects of the educational reforms on the physical chemistry course, including the online-to-offline teaching model, problem-oriented, group discussion, case analysis and flipped class. The aim of the reforms is to encourage the motivation and innovation of students and to improve the ability of self-study and solving problems.
At present, the international and domestic society urgently needs a large number of innovative pharmaceutical talents with outstanding capabilities in all aspects. As a discipline closely related to "organic chemistry", the teaching reform and practice of medicinal chemistry are of vital importance. Adopting the teaching mode reform of industry-university-research-application to the course of medicinal chemistry is beneficial to the cultivation of the talents, including the reform of classroom teaching, the introduction of the course platform and public account, the strengthen of the experimental teaching, and the promotion of the diversified practical teaching, etc.
Based on the concept of OBE (Outcome-Based Education) in engineering education, and taking the chemical engineering and technology major of our university as an example, a systematic mechanism served for cultivating students' engineering design ability is proposed, which focuses on the main idea of "defining-realization-evaluation of learning outcomes". The cultivating mode in this work including the construction of course system, the allocation of teaching conditions, and the quality monitoring of personnel training, can be of guiding significance to the construction of talent-cultivation system of related majors in local universities.
Teaching reform of two experiments of basic chemistry laboratory was carried out based on the chemical competition thinking to solve the profound problems in teaching reform. The results of teaching reform show that the teaching objectives of related courses are in good agreement with the training goal of applied chemistry, that the teachers of different courses can highly unify their thoughts under the same teaching topic to communicate deeply, and that training mode of competitive thinking can greatly stimulate students' learning motivation and improve the learning efficiency of students.
Since 2017, the Ministry of Education has actively promoted the construction of emerging engineering education. The construction and research of emerging engineering education for chemistry majors are carried out in full swing with the support of the relevant reform projects from the Ministry of Education and the Teaching Steering Committee of Chemical Specialty of the Ministry of Education, and guiding opinions have been put forward for the construction of emerging engineering education for chemistry majors. From the two aspects of teaching materials and course teaching, the integration of the concept of "emerging engineering education" in a specific course (comprehensive & design chemical experiments) is introduced. Based on the previous results and experience, preliminary exploration and practice have been carried out, and some specific reform ideas, such as construction of supporting textbooks that incorporate the idea of "emerging engineering", giving full play to the advantages of online and offline teaching, DIY experiments, and competitions, etc., are put forward. It can provide a reference for the other courses to carry out reform in the context of "emerging engineering education".
